Good Night Friend

person hand and crescent moon

Across the miles I reach my hand

To brush your cheek and say goodnight

The fairy dust that lines my eyes

Will keep them shut so very tight

Its time to sleep but first I pray

And then on lilac pillows lay

The blue hour comes and goes and then

The darkest hour of time descends

The stars at night reach out to us

and twinkle like your eyes they must

You’ve walked with me in a dream or two

Our footprints fade in morning dew

The ribbon of road that lies ahead

Will distance us but once again

Across the miles I reach my hand

And you reach back a stronger friend
