Aurora

I am much more comfortable writing in a narrative style. I hear its good to challenge yourself with something new. I joined a poetry group. This is a poem I chose to read for the group. I have written about the day we brought Loren home. It’s been my favorite story to tell. Now it’s in another format. Enjoy!

The Aurora

Carol Clupny 1.26.2023

 a cold northern night

the stars are not bright

the moon didn’t offer to glow

the sky starts to  simmer

blue, red, yellow  its glimmer

light forms arch, circle, and bow

 sun hot in the garden

the melons we started

grew vines now  blossoming  fruit

weeds smother the lettuce

three kinds to have fed us

‘still ‘nuff for a family of two

 the treehouse needs paint

the ladders ain’t straight

frayed rope swings the ole rusty bucket

it needs loads of repair

to make it safe to play there

lets just tear  it down and chuck it

 sweat on my brow

the phone’s ringing now

dogs barking to add to the din

there’s a baby boy here

we are cuddling him near

until you arrive and  take him

  baby! not expected

nothing  has been  collected

so we hurried and stopped at the mall

in the car later that night

the instant mom cries with fright

but in the dark she sees a star fall

on the horizon far away

northern lights are ready to play

the sky starts to glimmer and glow

the blue, green, red and yellow

dance for this tiny fellow

as they escort the new family home

I am Carol Clupny. I don’t give up! But what if I want to. What if I am tired of all this…the pain, the tremors, the freezing gait, the voice that is getting softer, the inability to get up out of a chair and walk across the room, this disease called Parkinson’s? Getting up out…

In the 5 years since I first heard  “care partner” (previously called carer, caregiver,…
